This ‘Immunity in Community’ Webinar confronts the current global COVID-19 Pandemic head on and asks how can our humanity come out of it stronger and more compassionate than we were before the COVID-19 virus crossed the species barrier from animals to humans late in 2019, sending the whole world into chaos. The Webinar is jointly presented by Ven Dr Juewei, Director of the Nan Tien Institute, Australia, and Emeritus Professor Stephen Hill from the University of Wollongong. Their interaction carries the audience through reflections on the triple Economic, Health and Moral Crises which we confront, and explores the prior economic ‘frame’ of values from which we now must ‘leap forward’. Both speakers emphasise the critical role of creativity and building a culture of care, in particular, within community and the ‘local’ - both at personal and social levels.

Technological advancement has overseen exponential development in our quality of life, the means by which duties are undertaken, and the means by which we can interpret and perceive the world around us. Whereas this is evident in the visual world and art forms, this is not so clear with musical development, as despite technology inaugurating possibilities for new sounds, harmonies and structures, modern day popular music may suggest otherwise with its artificial looping and loudness, and formulae based on preexisting formats without being fully aware of the potential of sound and how it affects us as human beings. This also corresponds to how rapid technological advancement has also superseded humanity’s biological collective evolution, in that bad habits have emerged that would have otherwise been inconceivable, such as the pathologies underlying smartphone addiction and instantaneous gratification.

Two musical Mavericks in their respective fields will be joining SRRUh’s Jason Noghani to discuss this matter in greater depth - electroacoustic avant-garde percussionist Amy Knoles, and dark Psytrance producer and composer Mark Day, whose brilliance and contrasting backgrounds will provide an insatiable intellectual feast - discussing how technology can be a conduit and catalyst for the evolution of consciousness from a musical perspective.

British artist collective Addictive TV are known for their innovative use of audio/visual sampling and their live AV shows. Their global music project ‘Orchestra of Samples’, described by The Times as “ingenious and compelling”, digitally brings together over 250 musicians they filmed around the world over the last decade, sampling them all to create new music of extraordinary fusions. Addictive TV will give an insight into their work which explores new forms of collaboration with all those musicians who collectively play an enormous range of instruments.
