Our power to 'heal' our currently 'fractured' society and build harmony lies in the depth of our humanity - our spirituality.

What is sacred or of imperishable supreme value is what we can be as a human race - empowered, fulfilled individuals, living in harmony, deeply sharing and caring for each other across our separate cultural and life worlds - where mindfulness, mutual human benefit and mutual trust are the norms in our economic relations rather than separative self-interest and the contracted immediate economic deal.

Food for Thought

In light of this year’s alarming events, Sacred Rhythm Reborn Unison (SRRU) “Homecoming” seeks to address the current dilemmas of our times, by finding new solutions and new possibilities to counteract the current socioeconomic systems that no longer serve to further. At the turn of the Millennium, Sacred Rhythm expounded the importance of harmonising modern day scientific and technological practices with the spiritual wisdom of earlier civilisations, so that a more interconnected and mutually corresponding synergy can occur between the arts, sciences and conscience (spirituality). Ancient civilisations understood these principles, which resulted in artistic and scientific advances that pertained to higher ideals that served to benefit their cultural development and influence over later generations. However, since the Aufklerung (Enlightenment) of the 18th Century in Western Europe, the separation of church and state created a pathos that eventually saw increasing dysconnectivity between the arts, sciences and conscience. Nowadays, scientists will appreciate art more than artists appreciate science, and many will overlook the significance religion has played in the development of each civilisation’s musical heritage.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Sacred Rhythm Reborn Unison (SRRU) will be operating on a virtual format, utilising and maximizing the means of today’s technological tools to produce and present musical performances. With this in mind, and of course, the current socioeconomic challenges, SRRU hopes to contribute to understanding and challenging the “New Normal”, using available resources at our disposal. This awareness is crucial to note in light of the Post-Truth World that we currently inhabit, where the flow of information makes it easier to exchange and share ideas that would have otherwise been inaccessible.

SRRU itself is more than just an event or a festival; it is also a capacity building/enhancing project in the form of clinics. However, with the current social distancing restrictions, it is practically impossible to conventionally manifest at full capacity. SRRU thrives to counteract these limitations by proposing, challenging and experimenting with new ground in search of new ideals through musical discoveries.

Intercultural Dialogue

When political and economic dialogues seem to have failed the world so far, we should return to the very fabric of humankind: culture. Culture is a much more neutral zone to accommodate mutual understanding and respect; therefore, cultural dialogue should be put at the forefront in transforming the disproportionate weight between domination and dependency into mutual enrichment. This series of intercultural dialogue is intended for improving the level of understanding, respect and appreciation among individuals, groups, and communities coming from different backgrounds and generations.

Immunity in Community

Panelist:

Moderator:

Ven. Dr. Juewei Shi, Stephen Hill

Boo-boo Sianturi

Friday, 8 January 2021

12:00 (UTC+07)

This ‘Immunity in Community’ Webinar confronts the current global COVID-19 Pandemic head on and asks how can our humanity come out of it stronger and more compassionate than we were before the COVID-19 virus crossed the species barrier from animals to humans late in 2019, sending the whole world into chaos. The Webinar is jointly presented by Ven Dr Juewei, Director of the Nan Tien Institute, Australia, and Emeritus Professor Stephen Hill from the University of Wollongong. Their interaction carries the audience through reflections on the triple Economic, Health and Moral Crises which we confront, and explores the prior economic ‘frame’ of values from which we now must ‘leap forward’. Both speakers emphasise the critical role of creativity and building a culture of care, in particular, within community and the ‘local’ - both at personal and social levels.

How Technology Can Be a Conduit and Catalyst for The Evolution of Consciousness?

Panelist:

Jason Noghani

Thursday, 28 January 2021

01:00 (UTC+07)

Technological advancement has overseen exponential development in our quality of life, the means by which duties are undertaken, and the means by which we can interpret and perceive the world around us. Whereas this is evident in the visual world and art forms, this is not so clear with musical development, as despite technology inaugurating possibilities for new sounds, harmonies and structures, modern day popular music may suggest otherwise with its artificial looping and loudness, and formulae based on preexisting formats without being fully aware of the potential of sound and how it affects us as human beings. This also corresponds to how rapid technological advancement has also superseded humanity’s biological collective evolution, in that bad habits have emerged that would have otherwise been inconceivable, such as the pathologies underlying smartphone addiction and instantaneous gratification.

Two musical Mavericks in their respective fields will be joining SRRUh’s Jason Noghani to discuss this matter in greater depth - electroacoustic avant-garde percussionist Amy Knoles, and dark Psytrance producer and composer Mark Day, whose brilliance and contrasting backgrounds will provide an insatiable intellectual feast - discussing how technology can be a conduit and catalyst for the evolution of consciousness from a musical perspective.
